Ernest married Edith Ellen Kearvell late in 1911 in Westbourne in Sussex. Their two daughters were baptised in St Peter’s Church, Budleigh Salterton where Ernest was described first as a Royal Navy stoker and then as being in the coastguard.
The younger daughter Ivy was baptised only a couple of months before his death and is believed to have survived well into the 21st century. The older daughter Iris, died in 1998 in Budleigh Salterton. Ernest’s burial records give an address as ‘Ivybank’ in St David’s Hill, Exeter. Edith died in 1977 in Exeter aged 92. She had been living in Frewins Cottages, Budleigh Salterton, at the time of Ernest's death.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission says Leading Boatman Waller served on HMS President. Ernest was awarded the Star, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
E.A.Waller is listed under 'Royal Navy and R.N.R.' in the Budleigh Salterton Roll of Honour.
