Budleigh Salterton's Roll of Honour

Good Afternoon to you from sunny Margate in South Africa.
Thank you so much for making my year (never mind day) at the mention of my darling Granny Evelyn Eleanor May Pullin and her sister Violet under your VAD section. They both survived the war and immigrated to South Africa where Evelyn married her childhood sweetheart Ayliff Usher (born here in South Africa of 1820 british settlers who came to South Africa on board the Weymouth) after a 13 year long distance engagement. Both she and Violet led happy and fulfilled lives and were very loved by their families. Evelyn and Ayliff had 3 children Evelyn , Anne and John. Evelyn her oldest daughter served in the WAAF's in WW2 and she has just passed away now in November 2014. Gran died in January of 1969 when I was 9 years old and I have missed her ever since. I am her youngest granddaughter born to her eldest daughter Evelyn. I would love to tell you of her love story across the miles if you are interested. I also have photos of her in her VAD outfit that I can scan to you. I also have one or 2 photos of the men that she helped nurse back to health. My mother tells me how much my gran cried upon hearing of the deaths of the young men that she knew from home...such a sad and tragic time for that generation.
