Walter Perkins was born in Beer in 1895, the son of James Perkins, a builder and decorator, and his wife Ellen. From at least 1901 the family lived at Colebrooke House, Beer. Walter was the brother of Jack Perkins.
Walter joined the Royal Engineers, and went to France on 9 September 1915. He became a Corporal, before being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at XIX Corps Headquarters on 22 April 1918.
Walter died in 1948, aged 53.
