The son of John and Mary Jane Palmer, William was the brother of Arthur, who was also killed in the First World War.
William served at first with the Royal Field Artillery, with the service number 130446, before joining the 6th Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry.
Private 28200 Palmer died on 23 August 1917, and is remembered with honour on the Tyne Cot Memorial to those who have no known grave, and on the memorials in East Budleigh.
