Born in Monmouthshire in 1861 to Arthur Samford Tripp and Agnes Jane Llewellyn and obviously had a distinguished Army career.
By 1911 he is living in Axminster, Devon, retired Colonel.
His connection to Budleigh Salterton is that he died here in 1917, of Lansdowne, and is buried in St Peter’s cemetery, Moor Lane, where a gravestone is erected to his memory. He was awarded a Commonwealth War Graves Commission certificate but he did not seem to see active service but may well have helped with local matters.
His family did not stay in the area.
