Rank: Corporal Regiment: Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) Died: 1967 Age: 73 Parish: Beer
William Lemm was born in Beer around 1894, the son of William Robert Lemm, a stonemason for the Clinton Devon Estates, and his wife Annie. At the time of the 1911 census the family lived in Malt House Lane, Beer, and William junior gave his occupation as blacksmith’s assistant, working for R. Newton
He joined the Cavalry section of the Machine Gun Corps, and went on active service overseas, but his Army record has not survived and it is not possible to tell exactly where he served. However, his medal index card shows that he must have gone on active service at some point from January 1916 onwards.
William died in 1967, aged 73.
