Born in 1884 in Egham, Surrey, to James Southcott and Caroline, young George is recorded as living in Surrey where his father was a Police Constable and later Sergeant.
George marries Jean McKay in 1909 in Honiton Registration District and was living in Colaton Raleigh at the time of the 1911 census with two daughters. His parents were by then living in Harpford Hill, Newton Poppleford. On his CWGC certificate it states that his wife was living at Mount Pleasant Cottage, Knowle. The family do not seem to have stayed in the area.
His siblings do not seem to have been involved in the war.
George is remembered with honour on the Budleigh Salterton War Memorial and the brass plaque in the town's St Peter's Church.
