Born around 1889, Sidney was the son of Mr and Mrs Morrish of Green Hill, Colaton Raleigh.
Private 10436 Sidney George Morrish served with the 8th Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment, which was raised in Exeter in August 1914, and left for France in May 1915.
On 1 July 1916, British forces, primarily the 8th and 9th Devonshires, captured Mametz on the Somme, incurring heavy losses.
Sidney is remembered with honour at the well-known Devonshire Cemetery in Mametz, alongside 162 others from the regiment. He is also remembered on the memorial at St John’s Church, Colaton Raleigh.
