William James Dunn was born 1891 in the Newton Abbot area of Devon the son of William and Elizabeth Dunn (nee Bray) and was living with his parents in 1901 & 1911 census at Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset.
William Dunn marries Ellen Elizabeth Braund in the Budleigh Salterton area in 1915 and their daughter Ruby Elizabeth was born there in 1916. After the war Ellen marries a Cecil Parker and has further children and they lived at 15 St Mary's Grove, Swindon, Wiltshire until her death in 1969.
Before joining the Welsh Regiment William served as Private 27311 in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.
He was a Private in the 13th Battalion of the Welsh Regiment, and died on 3 September, 1918, aged 27.
He is remembered with honour on the Budleigh Salterton War Memorial, St Perter's Church Memorial and on the Fins New British Cemetery in Sorel-Le-Grand, along with more than 1,000 other casualties of the Great War.
