Born in East Budleigh in early 1895, Neil was the son of Albert and Mary (nee Fouracres) Troake from the village.
He was the husband of Elsie M Troake, of Sedgewell Farm, Ideford.
Private 27312 Troake served with the 6th Battalion of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, and died of his wounds on 25 September, 1917, aged 22.
He is buried in Trois Arbres Cemetery at Steenwerck, in France, and is also remembered with honour on the Budleigh Salterton and East Budleigh war memorials.
