Thomas was born in 1897 in Sevenoaks, Kent, to Major Edward Fisher and Edith Mabel (nee Coney). The family were living in St Saviour, Jersey in the Channel Islands in 1901 and 1911, but by then Thomas was at Felstead School in Essex.
He later went to the Sandhurst military academy. The family came to Budleigh Salterton and lived at Braywick, East Budleigh Road by the time Thomas's Commonwealth War Graves Commission certificate was issued. Edward and Edith died in 1951 and are buried in St Peter’s Cemetery, Moor Lane.
Nineteen-year-old Thomas died in 1916 while serving with the 1st Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment and is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial, which is also known as the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
There is a stone to Thomas in St Peter’s Cemetery which has been moved at some time, and a stone telling this fact.
No date is known for this stone but we can assume his parents arranged for it, but there is no gravestone there for them.
