Born in 1898 in Budleigh Salterton to William J Yeats and Fanny (Hallett), Albert lived with his parents in Chapel Street and later at 58 High Street, Budleigh Salterton. He was a member of the Budleigh Salterton Football Club, and after joining up served with the 2nd/1st Wessex Field Ambulance of the Royal Army Medical Corps.
At the time of Albert’s death his parents were living at 14 High Street, Budleigh Salterton. They later moved to Greenway Lane. His father was a gardener and died in 1939, and his mother in 1951. Both are buried in St Peter’s Cemetery, Moor Lane, Budleigh Salterton.
Albert is remembered on the town’s War Memorial and the brass plaque in St Peter’s Church, and at the Thiepval Memorial in France, which is also known as the Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
